During Covid-19, I was furloughed from my job for eleven weeks. At this time I took the opportunity to take a step back from my own artwork and indulge in some time to catch up with reading books on the to-do pile as well as investigate other artists, textile and otherwise.
Victoria Crowe's books were at the top of that list, her work is just incredible and we were very lucky to see her life's work exhibition, twice, in Edinburgh in October 2019. After seeing a Matisse and Picasso exhibition at Gracefield in Dumfries in 2018 and then taking a workshop with Seth Apter in Dumfries earlier in 2019, my love of collage grew. Since the summer of 2020 I have been researching artists, some I have admired for years, and some new ones suggested to me by a friend, including Balint Zsako, Adam Cullen, Anselm Kiefer, Hokusai, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Matisse, Henry Moore, and Dalí. The last couple of years have certainly broadened my visions and views of those artists considered classic and the much more contemporary ones, too.
I have also very much enjoyed seeing the following exhibitions:
Lee Krasner at the Barbican Centre 2019
Victoria Crowe at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh 2019
Hiroshige and Hokusai at Kirkcudbright Gallery 2019
Hokusai and the work of his daughter at the British Museum 2018
I am very pleased to be one of the artists with work for sale in the newly reopened shop The Lime Bothy in Newton Stewart. See Where to Buy for further detail.
I am one of the collective of the Artists & Makers shop in Castle Douglas. The shop opened on Monday 3rd July 2017, at 141 King Street, DG7 1DX. The link below is for their Facebook page:
